From Theory to Practice-Sharpen Your Clinical Judgment
Workshop Overview:
This one-hour interactive workshop uses real-world case studies to help BCBAs strengthen their clinical supervision skills. Participants will collaboratively work through common supervision challenges, focusing on applying ethical standards, promoting skill generalization, selecting interventions based on function, and ensuring ethical and practical implementation. The goal is not memorization, but the ability to think like a behavior analyst—analyzing, evaluating, and responding to supervision scenarios thoughtfully and effectively.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Identify the relevant BACB ethics codes and supervision responsibilities when faced with common supervision challenges.
- Analyze skill acquisition programming for generalization failures and propose evidence-based strategies to promote skill transfer.
- Select function-based interventions, particularly when addressing automatically maintained behaviors, while ensuring ethical and practical implementation.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of supervision practices, including the use of objective data to make necessary improvements.
- Collaborate with stakeholders (e.g., parents, teachers) to ensure interventions are socially valid, ethical, and culturally responsive.
- Document critical supervision decisions clearly and professionally to maintain ethical compliance and treatment integrity.
